A right royal reception!

Day eleven.

Today more than lived up to the expectations of going up country.  An early start took us to a large village called Mile 91 – a strange name you may think, but this is 91 miles from Freetown, so it makes some sense.  A brief mechanical issue with the vehicle was soon fixed with about 10 workers from Family Homes Movement putting their heads under the bonnet.  From Mile 91 it was another hour to negotiate about 15 miles of dirt road before arriving at the river.  For this part of the journey we had to take a dug out canoe, and were lifted onto dry land by the willing folk on the other side.

Without a paddle

From this moment onwards we we were met by the whole village beating drums, singing and dancing to welcome us.  We walked a few yards at a time, stopping to admire the amazing dancing. This must be what it was like for Harry and Megan on their recent trip to Africa!

Once we arrived at the heart of the village, we were able to see the new toilets that have been constructed for children at a half built school.  Rough local bricks have been fashioned into 3 small classrooms.

Beyond the school is a well which is almost completed.  This will provide clean water for the village.  We had  the privilege of saying a few words to the village in their community hut.  This was translated twice; once into creole, and then into Timba.

Coming home was everything in reverse.  Fortunately no one fell into the river, although children were enjoying a swim to stay cool.

Today will be such a special memory for all of us.  One we can share with video footage at our Christmas concert on December 7th.  Save the date if you can.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers.  We are sad that our days here will soon be coming to a close, but so grateful that we have had the chance to see  more of the work of Family Homes Movement, and share God’s love with His people.

Tomorrow Clive will preach at the local church, and we will spend some time relaxing on the special Bureh Beach.

Blessings to you all, The team

Clive, Verity, Sandra and Sarah.
